German Cadenas - Steering Committee Member

Dr. Germán A. Cadenas (he/his/él) is an advocate for immigrant rights and for equity in mental health and education. He is a faculty member at Rutgers University - New Brunswick, and his work has been recognized by several awards and media contributions. His advocacy for humane immigration policies started 15 years ago as a student activist in Arizona, pushing for the national DREAM Act and peacefully resisting anti-immigrant state policies. He regularly collaborates with immigrant-led organizations locally and nationally. His work has led to the development and implementation of programs and policies to support the wellbeing of immigrants in higher education, schools, the workforce, and in behavioral health.

He is trained as a psychologist and has held multiple leadership roles to steer public policy advocacy efforts in national psychological associations. His research and testimony have also reached the policymaking process at the executive, legislative, and judicial levels.
