Budget Bill — Urges New Jersey Representatives to Block Harmful House Version
Trenton, NJ — July 2, 2025 — The Latino Action Network (LAN), under the leadership of President Javier Robles, calls on all New Jersey members of the U.S. House of Representatives to oppose the House version of the recently passed Senate reconciliation bill. Known officially as Trump’s “big, beautiful” budget bill, its draconian cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, ACA subsidies, and more pose an existential threat to Latino families, people with disabilities and the broader Garden State community.
"This is not budget reform — it is a moral crisis."
The Senate bill would slash at least $3.9 trillion over 10 years from Medicaid and essential programs (sources). These cuts would force 16 million Americans off Medicaid and ACA coverage — including thousands of New Jersey Latinos.
Impact in New Jersey is severe:
- Over 550,000 residents rely on Medicaid expansion; nearly 513,000 depend on ACA marketplace subsidies.
- Households in Latino communities already face food insecurity — this bill would deepen that crisis.
Javier Robles, President of the Latino Action Network, stated:
“This bill is a direct attack on our families. It tears away life-saving health care, forces our children and seniors into poverty, and abandons the very people who
make New Jersey strong. Our communities need investment — not cruel cuts to fund tax breaks for billionaires.”
Call to Action:
- New Jersey Representatives must vote NO on the House version of this devastating bill.
- Constituents should immediately contact Republican Representatives Thomas Kean Jr., Jeff Van Drew, and Chris Smith, demanding they stand with New Jersey families by opposing these catastrophic cuts.
- Tell them: “Our families deserve care and dignity, not political games that threaten their health and security.”
