
Yeimi A. Hernandez is a resident of Freehold and a proud Oaxaqueña. In 2024, Yeimi graduated magna cum laude from Rutgers University - New Brunswick, where she majored in Psychology with a minor in Sociology. She is a Brookdale Community College alumna where she graduated in 2020. Yeimi started her advocacy in Immigrants Right at the age of 11, in a grassroots organization in her hometown in Freehold. At the age of 15, she became involved with the Latino Coalition of New Jersey (LCNJ), where today she was recently assigned as the Co-Deputy Director. Through LCNJ, she began working with Latino Action and joining fights such as Driver’s License for All, Occupation Licenses and other efforts. During her collegiate years, she joined the newly formed e-Board of the Latinx-Pre-Law Society, and served as President of UndocuRutgers. These organizations helped her shape her advocacy efforts with students and across campus.
As of recent, Yeimi has joined the newly formed cohort of board members for the Transnational Council of Indigenous Peoples and Afro-descendants in New Jersey as a young voice. Yeimi is of Zapotec origin and while she may not speak her mother tongue, she has joined the fight to save it and preserve her people's traditions.
